On March 16, the Maigaiti East 3D Seismic Acquisition Project of Yanchang Petroleum in the Tarim Exploration Area officially commenced. The construction site was filled with a warm atmosphere: seismic team members showed high morale and heroic spirit in conquering the desert, while experts gathered to deeply exchange views on the challenges and opportunities of Maigaiti exploration.
It is reported that in 2022, Yanchang Petroleum obtained the oil and gas exploration right for 3,441 square kilometers in the Tarim Basin, Xinjiang region, through an auction organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources. To quickly assess the oil and gas resource potential in the concession area, the Xinjiang Exploration and Development Headquarters was established in 2024, specifically responsible for oil and gas exploration in Xinjiang. In accordance with the overall deployment, a "three-step" exploration plan was formulated: carrying out 2D seismic and time-frequency electromagnetic exploration in 2024 to identify favorable exploration areas, launching 3D seismic surveys in 2025 to optimize exploration targets, and initiating risk well drilling in 2026. Among them, the 2025 Maigaiti East 3D Seismic Project is the first 3D seismic project of Yanchang Petroleum Group in the Xinjiang block, with a full coverage of 344 square kilometers, primarily aimed at determining the location of the first risk exploration well.
The official launch of this project is an important component of Yanchang Petroleum's collaboration with the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, to carry out major national scientific research tasks. The commencement of the project marks the in-depth advancement of Yanchang Petroleum's exploration in Xinjiang, which will contribute to oil and gas breakthroughs in the Southwest Tarim Depression and promote local economic and social development.
